This morning after breakfast, join our guide to the famous pyramids of Giza. Roam the Giza desert and capture memories with a photo session. Go camel riding and view the great Sphinx on the Giza Plateau. Then drive to the remains of the Ancient Egyptian capital and religious cult centre: Memphis. The name Memphis (enduring and beautiful) gives you an insight into what you’ll witness amazing statues. Immortalized biography of Egyptian kings: Ptah, Ramses ll, Sekhmet, Merneptahm, and others. Then heading to Saqqara for the first built pyramid, also called the step pyramid, where you’ll venture inside its hidden chambers, visit Unas pyramid, which contains the oldest known copy of The Book of the dead, and visit Mastaba of one of ancient Egypt Noblemen. This morning, join our expert Egyptologist to explore the Egyptian Museum to view a vast trove of artefacts; some never before displayed, some of which include the famous golden mask of King Tut Ankh Amun, One of Egypt’s most controversial kings. After that, we’ll travel to Old Cairo to see the city’s oldest temples, synagogues, and mosques. Finally, return to the Nile View room at the Fairmont Nile City, and enjoy meals B and D.
Early this day, we will take a 1-hour flight to Luxor, with its abundance of temples and tombs, stands head and shoulders above Egypt’s other cities, to visit the Luxor museum, which holds an outstandingly exhibited collection, which tells the story of ancient Thebes from the Old Kingdom up to the Islamic Period. Enjoy horse Carriage riding in the old market and taste Egyptian food at one of the local restaurants. And back to Sonesta St George Royal Club room. Meals, B & D.
Tour the Valley of the queens where Ancient Egyptian queens were buried alongside their sons and enjoy the vibrant, almost-like newly painted colours. Heading for some local restaurant for lunch, then moving to the valley of Nobles. There you’ll learn about the everyday life of ancient Egyptian rather than the royals. Because not all tombs there are discovered, you might come across one or two Archaeological excavations. Returning to the room at Sonesta Saint George Royal Club. Meals, B & D.
We’re still at Luxor; Thebes, the great city of the Middle and New Kingdom pharaohs, was once located here, and today you’ll be indulging the fresh aroma of the Nile with our cruise boat on your way to visit the Luxor East Bank. Heading to Temple of Karnak, the most astonishing and beautiful feat out of all Luxor’s many monuments. Within its precincts are the Great Temple of Amun (God of sun and air), the Temple of Khons, and the Festival Temple of Tuthmosis III, as well as many other buildings. Following the Sphinx avenue to Luxor Temple, also known as “The southern harem of Amun”, dedicated to worship Amun. Part of the temple used as a church during the Christian era. The Mosque of Abu el-Haggag, dedicated to a revered holy man, was constructed within the complex grounds during the Islamic period. On this day after breakfast, you’ll visit the famed Valley of the Kings, the final resting place for the kings of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties were concealed between rocky cliffs. It’s mainly famous for its vivid wall paintings. The walls are decorated with texts and scenes describing one’s afterlife journey giving them instructions to complete their journey successfully.
There are 63 tombs in the valley, including the famous boy-king Tut Ankh Amun. The tombs are open on a rotating basis to protect the paintings from damage by humidity as much as possible. We will then visit the Worker Village, which describes the life of the ancient Egyptian middle class’s life and how their graves were completely different from the royal class’ graves, small and humble yet honourable, sacred and radiant colours. Last but not least, we will pay a visit to the great and woman pioneer tomb: Queen Hatshepsut. The Temple of Deir Al-Bahri or Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple is situated at the foot of the sheer cliffs fringing the desert hills.
The colour contrast between the almost white sandstones of the temple and the golden yellow rocks and sand of the desert brings out the Temple in a magnificent image. Having survived the destructive attempts from King Thutmose lll, the temple still stands with glory amongst other great temples. And at last, on our way back to the cruise ship, we’ll visit the Colossi of Memnon; they portray Amenophis III, sitting on a cube-shaped throne and once guarded the king’s temple entrance. Our guide will accompany you on a horse-riding and carriage ride to the Temple of Edfu or the Temple of Horus (Son of Isis and Osiris, God of kinship and power). After the Pagan cult was banned, the desert sand filled up the temple, making it one of Egypt’s most well-preserved ancient monuments.
At lunchtime, we’ll return to the cruise ship and enjoy the afternoon sliding up the river on your way to Kom Ombo, which rises above the Nile’s bank. The double temple of Sobek represented in the forms of crocodile and Horus represented as a falcon, respectively. You can feel the atmosphere of this glorious history by strolling along the temple’s colonnades and simply gazing up at scenes of pharaonic ambience. Continue sailing To Aswan thought the evening. Taking a break from ancient architecture and viewing one of Egypt’s modern accomplishments: Aswan High Dam. This time to the Philae Temple complex, returning to the ancient Egyptian atmosphere was once the centre of Isis (Goddess of life). If it wasn’t for the UNESCO’s rescue project, this temple was to be buried by a watery grave from building Aswan High Dam. Following the temple, we will tour the granite quarry to see a giant obelisk that was quarried in one solid piece. Back to the cruise ship for lunch. On entering the Temple of Abu Simbel, you’ll find two seated figures of Ramses guarding the entrance. Carved around their feet small figures of Ramses’ children, the beautiful Nefertari, queen, and mother, Queen Ti. Catacombs of Rome which is an underground burial used for centuries by Christians and jews. Pompey’s pillars, The ruins of the glorious ancient city of Rhakotis, the original township from which Alexandria arose, are loomed over by a massive 30m column. Amphitheatre, an oval-shaped building with an arena situated in the middle, is mainly an ancient Rome’s theatre version.
